November 19th | All deals and pricing checked.
Black Friday this year takes place over the weekend of the 29th of November, coming to a crescendo on the 2nd of December with Cyber Monday. Once considered a niche accessory, smartwatches are now hugely popular among cyclists. Their versatility and multisports functions mean you can track everything from the Sunday morning dog walk to multi-day bikepacking trips, with GPS navigation and all the standard metrics of the best cycling computers built in.
For most, it is unlikely that smartwatches will replace cycling computers, heart rate monitors and power meters. The detailed insight these combinations of devices offer into our power, heart rate, and mapping is hard to replicate on the tiny screen of a watch. However, as they are attached to us 24/7, they offer insightful performance stats that can help to supercharge our overall fitness and recovery. Things like blood oxygen levels, sleep, and recovery are where smartwatches come into their own.
While Black Friday is later in the month, many cycling retailers have gone early with sales this year. So, the Cycling Weekly deals hunters will bring you all the best wearables and cycling smartwatch deals throughout November, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and December.
We will also be covering all the best bike deals & cycling clothing deals this Black Friday, so head over to our hubs to see what we have managed to dig up.

Also only $259.98 at Walmart
Garmin Epix 2: Was $799.99, now $599.99 | Save $200 at Bass Pro Shops
Our best all-round smartwatch the Garmin Epix Gen 2 does a fantastic job of marrying style with its function as a sports watch. While it doesn't get solar charging like the Fenix it still boasts a 6-day battery life.
Apple Watch Series 9: Was $399, now $329 | Save 18% at Amazon
Only really displaced as the world's most popular smartwatch by its successor the Series 10. All the best Black Friday Smartwatch deals: UK
Garmin Forerunner 55: Was £159.99, now £118.70 | Save 26% at Amazon
While the Garmin Forerunner 55 is aimed at recreational and general fitness users, it is backed up by the Garmin Connect ecosystem, just like any Garmin device. This opens up a world of opportunities to support your training plan.
Garmin Fenix 7 GPS: Was £499.99, now £399.99 | Save £180 at Decathlon
Just like all Garmin devices the Fenix 7 packs a lot into a relatively small package. When Cycling Weekly Digital Editor Michelle put the Fenix 7 through its paces, she was impressed by the accuracy of the heart rate data and improved battery life. Despite being a little chunky to sleep in.
Garmin Epix Pro: Was £739, now £559 | Save £180 at Currys
Garmin claims "The Epix Pro is the ultimate smartwatch designed to perform all day and night". A quick look at the features and you would be forgiven to think this is a Garmin Edge 1050, not a 47mm watch that you can carry around anywhere. We are big fans of the Epix 2 here at Cycling Weekly, so if thats anything to go by, with such a big discount you would be silly not to indulge.
Garmin Forerunner 255: Was £349.99, now $259.99 | Save 26% at Sigma Sports
Really the only thing the Garmin Forerunner 255 doesn't support is mapping. For everything a cyclist needs, it's pretty much spot on. If you are after function over form the 255 is really where it's at.
How to choose a Smartwatch
The best Smartwatches can be split into two categories, which quickly helps to narrow down your options. If you are looking to keep track of your health and general fitness almost all smartwatches will do this. However, if this is all you need to do you can definitely consider some of the more affordable and simpler options. Consider watches like the Garmin Forerunner 255, Wahoo Elemnt Rival or Coros Apex 2 Pro.
If you are taking on a big adventure, looking to analyse training stats or would like features like mapping, consider the more expensive and complex ecosystems. Watches like the Garmin Forerunner 945, Forerunner 955 and Epix 2 are best suited to these tasks.
Smartwatch FAQs
Is black friday worth waiting for?
Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend is when we tend to see the lowest prices. With many retailers now running their sales for the majority of November, at least here in the UK, we do see good deals much earlier in the month. Some retailers have started to offer price matching for those who commit to early deals if the price goes down later in the sale. So, it's worth checking out your options.
We have already seen some unbelievable deals on smartwatches like the Garmin Forerunner 945 at Walmart & Amazon US.
Are smartwatches worth it?
It, of course, depends on who you are and what function you need from your smartwatch but there are two camps and smartwatches serve them slightly differently.
The first is those looking to improve their overall fitness and use their smartwatch as a training tool. This is where your smartwatch doesn't need to be cycling-specific, metrics like heart rate, blood oxygen, sleep and recovery are common features of all smartwatches. Ones with more cycling-specific features might include more detailed maps and the ability to connect to a heart rate monitor or power meter. It's worth noting they probably won't replace a cycling computer unless you're looking to do a triathlon.
For others, a less sports-focused or hybrid smartwatch like an Apple watch or Garmin Vivo could be a great tool to reduce screen time and distractions or the need to have your phone out in public. These smartwatches with the right plugins and apps can offer some, if not all the same fitness features but tend to be more stylish and less utilitarian. For cycling, the ability to pause or change your music, answer a call without the need to stop, and even pay for your mid-ride coffee and cake are all really handy.
What are the best smartwatches?
We have reviewed dozens of smartwatches in recent years here at Cycling Weekly. Slightly unsurprisingly, the world's biggest GPS, bicycle computer and smartwatch manufacturer, Garmin takes the best overall and best value smartwatches with the Epix 2 and Forerunner 945.
We also rate the Coros Apex 2 Pro very highly awarding that 4.5 out of 5 stars, along with the Wahoo Elemnt Rival, which is my smartwatch of choice. So, it is worth keeping an eye out for deals on these above.
Does Garmin do Black Friday?
Yes, that is the short answer. While Garmin directly might not always have deals, retailers and stockists of Garmin Smartwatches will almost certainly have offers.
We have seen numerous offers on Garmin Smartwatches already this year like this Garmin Forerunner 945 with $300 off at Walmart & Amazon.
Where can I buy a Smartwatch?
As smartwatches offer functions far greater than those needed for cycling, smartwatches are available to purchased at a much wider range of retailers. This does tend to mean that pricing can be a little more competitive, it will likely mean the best deals aren't found with cycling retailers though. Where possible we will feature a mix of both electronics and tech retailers, alongside the best cycle retailers, assuming they can offer similar or match the deals of those outside the industry.

Like so many, Matt got his start in the bicycle industry wheedling allen keys and the occasional hammer at his local IBD. Matt grew up mountain biking the flint-strewn hills of the North Downs but was convinced during his time with Evans Cycles' in-house brand Pinnacle and Hoy Bikes, to take up gravel cycling and bikepacking. Spotting the changing industry, Matt jumped at the opportunity to become an E-Bike designer. Winning several awards with Cairn Cycles and their range of Gravel E-bikes.
These days Matt will more than likely have a toddler sat shotgun and balance bike lassoed to his back somewhere on the South Downs. What time he does get to ride for himself, he chooses to take his Sonder Camino to just about anywhere that's quiet, off the beaten track or has some historical point of interest.
